Our good friend, Adrian Younge (Wax Poetics Records) opened a record store in downtown LA a few month ago. The store is called The Artform Studio.

Features artists from the forefront of the L.A. beat scene such as Jonwayne, ELOS, Free The Robots, Late Bloomers, and Brainfeeder's Tokimonsta. Numerous Japanese beatmakers such as grooveman Spot, KK, Conflict, Monkey_sequence rep the beat scene from the far east. All proceeds of the compilation series will be donated to the Japanese Red Cross and Civic Force to help those affected by the Tohoku Earthquake.

My Name is Fonetik Simbol and I’m from Reykjavík Iceland.

-What’s the hip-hop scene like where you’re from?

The hip-hop scene in Iceland is kinda small but we got some good hiphop artists like: Original Melody, Vald Wegan & Forgotten Lores.

-What equipment do you use?

I use mpc 2000xl, boss sp 303, Micro Korg, Acid Pro 2.0 & Pro Tools

-What kind of things inspire you the most to make a beat?

Icelandic Nature, Jazz & Good Food

-How did you get your name?

I don’t remember…haha

-How long does it take you to make a well polished beat that you’re proud of?

It takes me 10minutes – 1 Hour..

-What is your personal favorite song (or beat alone) you’ve produced for an emcee?

uhh.. I have to pick two songs. Co$$’s “khakis and taylors” and “Cosa Say” by Original Melody.

-How did you first link up with Co$$, and how long have you been collaborating?

On Myspace.. we have been collaborating since 2007.

-What do you think of Co$$ as an emcee? How would you describe his sound?

To me Coss’s style is very unique and that’s the reason why i wanted him to be a part of my solo album, because I liked his stuff. There were a lot of rappers sending me emails and myspace messages at that time about beats but I just picked out those I really liked and did stuff with them..

-Tell us about how you crafted the beat for 'Born Again' ft. Blu & Sene on Co$$'s debut, 'Before I Awoke'

damn I don’t remember…haha but I remember one thing.. the “hi hat” in the song = my car keys..

-What’s next for Fonetik Simbol? Any projects you’re working on or any other emcees you’re working with?

yea, im always working on some new projects. I have a new Beat Tape coming out and me & Coss are working on a project called “Crown Chevy”.Me and my homie Immo Schram from Iceland are also working on his solo album.

1. -Introduce yourself, where are you from?

Im Deven Welch aka dj Playa Haze im from Riverside Ca. Im in the Dino (San Bernadino) right now though.

2. -What’s the hip-hop scene like where you’re from?

The IE hiphop scene is underground to say the least. People love that grimey neck-snapping ish. Were far enough away from LA to have are own discrepancies

3. -What equipment do you use?

I use an assortment of software and gemini(tables).

4. -What kind of things inspire you the most to make a beat?

I get inspired by whatever energy i can feel. Girls, nature, cival rights, good/bad news. I just can't make anything i dont believe in. Truth=Beauty in African philosophy.

5. -How did you get your name?

Dj playa haze.. i got my tunrtables when i was 16 (thats the dj part) and they call me playa haze because I dance in the fog with the answers to it all.

6. -How long does it take you to make a well polished beat that you’re proud of?

I can usually make a tracks basic skeleton in 2-15 minutes than I'd take a hour or two to polish before i'd let an emcee hear it.

7. -What is your personal favorite song (or beat alone) you’ve produced for an emcee?

hmmm... I would have to say Falling from Grace right now. that ish is money.

8. -Describe your method when producing tracks..

I wont start making a track unless im inspired.. depending on what im trying to do i usually do the melody first.. i end up doing the intro last a lot of the time because I already know how i want the track to come across.

9. -How did you first link up with Co$$, and how long have you been collaborating?

A few years ago i just hit him up and he liked what he heard. Right place right time sort of deal.

10. -What do you think of Co$$ as an emcee? How would you describe his sound?

To me Co$$ is like a an angry poet who tells people what they know in their heart of hearts know is true. He is damn near uncategorizable because he is definitely LA and definitely conscious but he's got mad bounce.

11. Tell us about how you crafted the beat for 'Falling from Grace' on Co$$'s debut, 'Before I Awoke'

I was in a melancholy mood and wanted to manipulate some voices that day. I found a ill dusty record that was the same color as the one i saw in my head. Then i added the drums.... it took me days to find that clap...

12. -What’s next for Dj Playa Haze? Any projects you’re working on or any other emcees
you’re working with?

Planet Asia, Young Maylay, C.B. News, Tabi Bonney, Kasino Gang, an instrumental ep, and the rest is lowkey secret...(hopefully Boldy James too)

13. -Where would you like to see yourself in 5 years time?

Hopefully scoring video games and making iller tracks for the grimey individuals.

14. -If you had to pick one, who would your favorite current producer be?
Outta the newer guys... Exile (beatnick dee’s a fool for that “Thru the Flames” jonts too may I add)

1. Introduce yourself, where are you from?

Airic Estala aka Tranzformer from El Centro cali im 25 years old been doing this since 2009 first started recording punk rock then started making beats after high school been a fan of this underground shit for a while tho

2. What’s the hip-hop scene like where you’re from?

As for the scene in El Centro it sucks i live in a very small town where there's nothing to do but drink beers and make music cant even find a job down here the unemployment rate is 24.6 percent. There's a few dope producers from my town but never any showcases or anything i gotta go to San Diego for that or la.. but starting June 7th ill be living in the city of San Diego so hopefully more doors open for me

3. What equipment do you use?

When i first started making beats i was using fruity loops with no midi but now im rocking with reason 4 a midi axiom 25 and cool edit pro 2.1 hopefully get an mpc in the future no rush tho reason is the shit!

4. What kind of things inspire you the most to make a beat?

Smoking alot of weed listing to dope producers and mc's like Kankick ,beat maker beat, samiyam, pete rock, black milk and so on inspires me to make music. this town isn't to motivating when all you have to look at is dirt and palm trees lol..

5. How did you get your name?

How i got my name? well i figure that i flip a lot of samples and i feel like i transform the sample or sounds i use into a beat .. pretty simple ha

6.How long does it take you to make a well polished beat that you’re proud of?

Sometimes it takes me about 1 or 2 hours to make a beat.. the mixing part is what makes me lag a bit ..sometimes it gets done faster the other days

7. What is your personal favorite song (or beat alone) you’ve produced for an emcee?

My favorite song i produced would have to be left shattered ft blame one planet asia and johaz of deep rooted..the beat bangs hard and the cuts make it sound dirty and raw i never thought id have pa on a track or even blame one so its a blessing!

8. Describe your method when producing tracks..

When making beats i start off with my mixing .. make sure all my compressors are on and the eq is set.. that way my beat sounds dope when im in the process of making it and it helps me master my tracks a lot faster in the end after that i work on my drums and if im using a sample or just using a synth ill put that in next then some bass and background sounds .. i love background sounds

9. How did you first link up with Co$$, and how long have you been collaborating?

The fist joint i collaborated with co$$ was "so simple" in 2010 then after that was a joint called "we say" which was on DJ booth and now we got another joint "the one" that is gonna be on my self titled album dropping 5/31 for free! hes also gonna be rocking a hook for the koncept x Tranzformer (more than meets the eye) lp dropping soon!

10. What do you think of Co$$ as an emcee? How would you describe his sound?

Coss is a very talented mc, he spits very smooth.... sometimes a gangsta vibe but still in that hip hop feel .. and he raps over a lot of sick beats that normal mc's probably couldn't rip up. The beats on his new album really range from soulful joints to really abstract synth beats and he serves justice well on each track!

11. Tell us about how you crafted the beat for 'So Simple' on Co$$'s debut, 'Before I Awoke'

The beat so simple was crafted actually pretty quick. smoked a couple bowls ..recorded some drums.. wanted to use a raw sounding distorted clap and a kick that bumps! the synths on that beat came out really clean and spacey so i thought id go with a dirty raw synth bass to complete the beat and it worked out pretty damn good! its on some g funk style

12. What’s next for Tranzformer? Any projects you’re working on or any other emcees you’re working with

On March 11, 2011, the world witnessed a magnitude 9.0 earthquake hit the Tohoku region of Japan, resulting in a massive tsunami that swallowed whole towns , killed thousands, and destroyed nuclear reactors leading to widespread radiation leakage. The death toll has surpassed 10,000, over 17,000 are missing, and nearly 300,000 people are in temporary shelters. This news was quickly forgotten around the world, but it is said that it will take decades to restore the region.

The "LA♥JPN♥LA" compilation is a collection of exclusive tracks from artists in Los Angeles and Japan showing their solidarity in supporting the earthquake victims of Japan.

Curated by journalist and DJ Hashim B., Vol. 1 of the series features rising stars from the Low End Theory and L.A. beat scene such as Sweatson Klank(formerly Take), Mike Gao, Co.fee, Ras G, and Samiyam, as well as the new generation of Japanese beatmakers influenced by the L.A. scene such as Emufucka, fitz ambro$e, Bun, MONO X MONKEY, ichiro_, and a.z.

Mellower tracks contributed by Mitsu the Beats of Tokyo's Jazzy Sport, 80's electro-funk revivalist and Stones Throw artist Dam-Funk, and Japanese producers such as Inner Science, Chikaramanga(TRES Records), Rebel Musical, Shingo Suzuki, and Coffee & Cigarettes Band, show the diversity of the beat movement. Indie rockers Free Moral Agents contributed a fierce and emotional rendition of "IOLITE" recorded at Low End Theory. Kutmah features MC Dakim on the avant-rap track "It Started In The Heart", and Low End Theory resident MC Nocando created "West Side Rentals" produced by DJ Nobody in dedication to the people of Japan.
Acoustic and ambient tones from artists such as Miguel Atwood-Ferguson & Carlos Nino, Golden HIts, Gaby Hernandez, and Turn On The Sunlight provide a sonic healing aspect to the collection.

Though the compilation's focus is to offer longterm support to earthquake victims in Japan, it is also a means of introducing new talent from L.A. and Japan, and shedding light on the cross-cultural exchange that is happening between the two regions.

Vol. 2 which is set to be released in late August, will feature heavier beats and experimental rap from up and coming artists in L.A. and Japan, while Vol. 3 which will be released in September will focus on leftfield artists from the respective scenes.

Interview with Co$$ "Before I Awoke" Producers (Part 1) : Beatnick Dee

Beats on Co$$'s debut album, "Before I Awoke" (In Stores June 21st) were produced by 12 different producers from all over the world. We interviewed those producers to introduce here. Part one is with Beatnick Dee who produced the title track, "Before I Awoke."

-Introduce yourself, where are you from?

My name is BEATNICK DEE, I'm from a small south west town called Wells, the smallest city in the Uk. I was born in San Francisco and spent some of my younger years around the bay area. I've been producing Hip-Hop for about 5 years.

-What’s the hip-hop scene like where you’re from?

Uk Hip-Hop in general was really great between 2001-2006. Things have changed a lot over the last few years. There's rappers making number one hits now. A few underground dudes went for a more mainstream sound and now they're reaping the benefits and thats good for them. Jehst, Task Force, Skinnyman and Yungun are some people that haven't been as prolific as they used to be, but they're all incredible. Classic material has come from those guys. In the small countryside area I'm from, there's my boys Leaf Dog and BVA mc who are from Glastonbury doing their thing.

-What equipment do you use?

I use an Akai MPC 1000 with Logic 8 on a Mac Book Pro. I have an E-mu midi controller, Numark turntables and the M-Audio micro track II which I use to record various percussion instruments, sounds, noises etc. -What kind of things inspire you the most to make a beat? Sometimes I get inspired from watching a thriller movie and I get really hyped up and just feel in the zone for making new music afterwards. Sometimes books, hearing some amazing music. Hearing a dope sample of course. I listen to everything from Thai psych rock, to Soul, to European prog rock and everything in between. Sometimes I’ll set my alarm really early and just try and be as productive as possible throughout the day. Just waking up and saying to myself ”Ok, I have to work hard at this if I want to make this a career” can be enough to get me out of bed! Not every time though..ha

-How did you get your name?

I used to just be called Beatnick but there's a few people with a variation of the name so I decided to add something. My real name's Nick, last name Doherty and a few friends call my Dee so it made sense. My boys Leaf and Bva wanted to call me 'Gold Platypus', 'The Beat Molester', 'The Pig With Wings Beats' but none of those names stuck though.. haha.

-How long does it take you to make a well polished beat that you’re proud of?

It can take anywhere between 45 mins to 4 hours. A finished beat to me is arranged and sequenced just how I want, with drops/layers muted and at the right length, usually with verse and chorus sections. I spend a lot of time adding layers, tweaking synths and adding percussion and various sounds to the mix. That stuff can take a long time to get just right. I guess you could say I'm a perfectionist.

-What is your personal favorite song (or beat alone) you’ve produced for an emcee?

I'd honestly have to say the title track 'Before I Awoke' from Co$$' debut album. I'm really happy with the way it came together. The title track was originally going to be over another beat of mine, but I'm really glad he chose this one instead. If not that, then maybe another song I did for Co$$ called 'Through The Flames' which features Blu. That was so dope to have them both rocking over my production. Hope to do more work with both in future.

-Describe your method when producing tracks.

Most of the time it starts with a sample, then I'll work around it. I'll find the right drums, then tune, pitch and layer them, sometimes use a drum break, chopped or layered underneath my individual hits. Then if I can hear another instrument in my head going well with it, I try to create that sound. If there's not enough bottom end I'll play in a bass line myself too. I also like to re play the sample and layer my own instruments over the top and take the main loop out at certain points in the beat. I like progressive beats, or beats that change throughout. But as Just Blaze said ''Sometimes you just gotta let a loop rock''.

- Tell us about how you crafted the beat for the title track 'Before I Awoke' on Co$$'s debut album.

Well, at the time I was actually in a 'beat slump', the equivalent of writers block. Most of the time a sample has to move me in a certain way or make me feel like ''Wow I've got to mess with this loop right now''. However, at first, that sample wasn't doing too much for me but I thought I needed to have a go at something just to see what came out. It wasn't until I chopped up the saxophone and sequenced it over the main loop with the delay that I really felt it. There's some percussion layers added in and an extra organ I played in to thicken out the main loop. The bass line I played is a combination of a double bass and a thick filtered sub bass.

-How did you first link up with Co$$, and how long have you been collaborating?

I saw the Tres logo on his first mixtape so I checked it out, thought he was dope and sent him a message on myspace. Good old myspace, it was a great tool for awhile. I started sending him beats in 2007 I believe. Ever since then we've been building a strong musical chemistry. I feel I know what kinds of beats he likes, what suits him and he's really what I've been looking for in an emcee. So stay tuned for plenty more from Co$$ and I.

-What do you think of Co$$ as an emcee? How would you describe his sound?

His voice and flow are both very unique. His content is really varied which is a great thing as he can rock over anything from an epic banger to a mellow introspective or storytelling sounding beat. He's hungry too, he's got a huge passion for hip-hop and takes pride in his thought provoking lyrics.

-What’s next for BEATNICK DEE? Any projects you’re working on or any other emcees you’re working with?

As mentioned, I do a lot of work with Co$$, we’ll be putting a project together sometime in the near future called ‘Things Take Shape’. Half my beats and half Fonetik Simbol's. We have a lot of songs stashed. I’m doing a remix for ‘Now Til Infinity’ ft. Reks and Naledge which was on Co$$ and Numonics’ ‘Revelations’ mixtape. That’ll be part of a whole remix project for that album. I should have beats on Vinnie Paz’s next solo album, as well as Joe Scudda’s debut solo LP this year. Iron Braydz from London has an album coming this year called ‘The Slugger’. I’ll have a couple beats on there as well. There's Co$$, Blu, Shawn Jackson, Sene, Joe Scudda, Vinnie Paz of Jedi Mind Tricks, Iron Braydz, Saheed, J Nics, The Regiment, MadKem, Silent Knight, Klarity, Brotherman, Leaf & BVA of Three Amigos from back home. I’ve either done music, or have stuff forthcoming with all of these people.

-Where would you like to see yourself in 5 years time?

Ideally selling beats to various artists, with a name and a reputation for quality production. Consistently contributing to the genre I have such a big passion for. Working with more artists I respect and just having a solid foundation of rappers I work with regularly. Also to have the support of a large, growing group fans would be amazing.

-If you had to pick one, who would your favorite current producer be?

Man, that's a tough question. I could say at least 5 just off the top of my head. Number one I'll say 14kt. His style is varied, with so much emotion in his music. If he flips well known samples it's always in a really fresh and unique way. He's a huge inspiration to me.

-If you could pick one emcee to do an album with, who would it be?

I'd say Evidence. He's one of the few emcee's I'll listen to regardless of if I like the beat he's on. Always interesting to hear what he has to say and how he flips words.

Never Don't Grow is about living life as you see fit and chasing your dreams regardless of the risks and what others around you say and do. They say never stress the small s***.... they just let the positive grow.

About the making of the track "Never Don't Grow" as told by ReallyNathan;

Our usual approach to making our tracks is that Ahh’zel and I would make beats on our own and send it to the group to see if we can work with it. For this track, it was different.

So for about 2 years or so, Ahhzel and I had been working on beats on our own, until the time we made this one. We didn’t really say much when making it, and we didn’t really know where to start after such a long hiatus of not working with each other. But when we were in the process of putting everything together we both kind of felt that this is what we were waiting for, it was a feeling that was as natural as can be.

While we were vibing out to the beat, i decided to try to find some acapellas to just mess around and scratch over while it was playing. I ended up picking out Erykah Badu's “Cleva.” I started messing with the part, “And it might not grow” and we both were diggin it, so we put that in as well.

This track was really the first time we all sang on the track as well, we don’t have access to a choir or crazy good singers, so we do it all ourselves. Up till this song, we haven’t really experimented with us singing on the track, unless it was us messing around for a skit or something. It’s always a fun and spontaneous process for us. If we think of something, we just record it. If it sounds good, we’ll keep it, if it doesn’t we’ll go back to the drawing board.

About Late Bloomers;

Late Bloomers formed in 2009 while Ahh:Zel was sitting in law class distracted by the filipina girl who sat next to him. Fed up with the lack of halfway decent emcees and open minded collaborators, he sent a text to Nonstop saying nothing but "Ahh:Zel & Nonstop are Late Bloomers". Nonstop (confused) was down, and now all they needed was a dj. Enter ReallyNathan, who was added once Lord Quas told him to quit rapping, and partnered with Ahh:Zel to craft the soundbed of the burgeoning bloomers. With a new found direction and reinvigorated spirit, the three would go from disgruntled amateurs to a self described polished supergroup.

Recently, I have been DJing a lot.
I usually spin a mix of Soul, Funk, and Hip Hop.
When I spin, I often play the tracks I produced.
This one particular song is my recent favorite to throw in the mix.

Johnson & Jonson Sweat Shirt - Limited

In 2008, TRES released the self title album "Johnson&Jonson," by Blu and Mainframe. Besides the grimy flow, and raw loops, one of the other most memorable aspects of the album was the Red Baby a.k.a Johnny. The baby was conceived by artist, Shawn Barber, who also had other works which were featured on the 12" singles for J&J. When doing shows, J&J would actually bring along Johnny with them on stage and flaunt him, almost as if it were the third member of the group. This continued on until the Red Baby was stolen at one of their shows in San Francisco. Soon after, flyers online could be seen asking "Have you seen the Red Baby? report "Johnny to 1-800-johnson." Johnny is still missing till this day......

In memory of Johnny, and the J&J album, we did a limited worldwide release Red Baby T-Shirts, as well as 50 Red Baby Crewneck Sweaters.

We have now three sweatshirts left, Gray(Small), Black(Medium) , and Black(Large). We just put them up on eBay store for sale.

We shot the video this past May at Fat Beats LA (R.I.P.) & Venice Beach on some Gorilla Style steeze before the Police shut us down. If you can look closely, you can see some cameos from Magestik Legend & Dannu (of the Visionaries). We were supposed to release this video early this year but due to our situation with our original label closing shop, we decided to wait til we got our situation right. And for us, this is a long time coming.....

"So for about 2 years or so, Ahhzel and I had been working on beats on our own, until the time we made this one. We didn’t really say much when making it, and we didn’t really know where to start after such a long hiatus of not working with each other. But when we were in the process of putting everything together we both kind of felt that this is what we were waiting for, it was a feeling that was as natural as can be.

While we were vibing out to the beat, I decided to try to find some a cappellas to just mess around and scratch over while it was playing. I ended up picking out Erykah Badu's “Cleva.” and started messing with the part “And it might not grow”. Ahh:Zel ended up diggin it, and so did I, so we put that in as well.

"Never Don't Grow" was really the first time we all sang on the track, we don’t have access to a choir or crazy good singers, so we do it all ourselves. Up till this song, we haven’t really experimented with us singing on the track, unless it was us messing around for a skit. It’s always a fun and spontaneous process for us. If we think of something, we just record it. If it sounds good, we’ll keep it, if it doesn’t we’ll go back to the drawing board."

“T.R.E.S.Q.” is the fourth title from Chikaramanga’s 7" series. On all the tracks for these series, Chikaramanga is behind the beats and TRES RECORDS affiliate MCs are on the raps. This time around, ESQ is featured on the track.

The collaboration between ESQ and Chikaramanga developed through several face to face sessions with one another. Having met through TRES label mate Paten Locke, the two instantly connected and with each move they made, success was quick to follow. As these steps progressed, ESQ & Chikaramanga’s debut album,"The Succession" (TRES September 2010) was born, which sums up their creative process and the idea that "boom-bap" music is alive and well.

“T.R.E.S.Q.” was the first track ESQ and Chikaramanga ever made together and was included as a bonus track on Tres’s six year anniversary mix CD, “TRES PRESENTS : SEIS mixed by DJ Lowkey” (TRES June 2010). This track contains a melodic synth loop and heavy drums, laced with the quick/buttery flow of ESQ, giving the track an overall feeling of the 90’s hip hop we all grew up to and love. Co$$ and Numonics teamed up and released a free download mix tape, "Revelations" last week. Here is the info about Numonics;

Hailing from Ft Lauderdale, FL, Jonathan "Numonics" Rosenfeld is an up and coming producer who has worked with the likes of Reks, Donny Goines, Sene, Naledge and Freddie Gibbs. Utilizing a mixture of samples and original music, Numonics is known for his soul influenced approach to Hip Hop. The Florida-based producer was first spotted for his work with Monsters Ink on their Mick Boogie and Terry Urban assisted mixtape "Ink Made Me A Monster". To follow up this project, Numonics partnered with California based clothing brand IM KING and DJBOOTH.NET to release his first album "Being Cool Doesn't Pay The Bills". While working on this project, a new collaborative force was created. Los Angeles' Co$$ and Numonics created two tracks for said project and used that as the springboard to create "Revelations". Tres Records presents the latest album, "Brand New Old Me," from artist, Shawn Jackson. His previous solo album "First Of All..." created quite a buzz, especially with strong tracks such as "Feelin’ Jack." It's been 2 years since that release, so the time has come for him to make more noise and show his brand new old self. Jackson, also known for his work with Alex Newman(Giant Panda) to form the group New Jack Hustle, has been constantly putting in work. The latest of his projects is the "Hollywood Shuffle Mixtape," which has been feeding the fans for the meantime, but the main course is finally ready to be served.

The reason for the title "Brand New Old Me" remains evident throughout the album. With the heavy influence of electronic sounds and instrumentation becoming incorporated in almost all forms of music these days, Shawn Jackson keeps up with times and picks a batch of beats that both elevates and stays true to the art form. The growth in his lyrics is evident as well, as he constantly keeps with the theme of re-inventing oneself, while still being you.

From the change he's gone through over time to the types of sticky green leaves he prefers, Shawn shares his thoughts in his smooth yet staccato like flow matched with his clever ad libs. He also shares the mic with a few guest appearances such as Thurzday of U-N-I, and Co$$. As mentioned before the album is a portrayal of the times, and with tracks like "Change", "Brand New Old Me" and "Fruit Salad," folks will definitely get a taste of the past and the present. The lyrical content, and beats (which by the way, contains a production credit list of names such as Astronote, Knxwledge, Ro Blvd, etc.) are a true sign of an individual who strives to push the culture and innovate. We are working towards the ESQ & CHIKARAMANGA's album release. The album title is "The Succession". It will be available on CD, Double Vinyl, and Digital Download. The release date is September 14th worldwide.
As I informed you before, we did a video shoot for the lead single, "My Intellect" about two weeks ago. The official video will be ready within two weeks. Really Nathan is working on behind the scene footage now. We can probably put it up on our vimeo and youtube page soon. We finally got the final master of the album and sent it to pressing plant a few days ago. After we made a few adjustments on the master we got first, the master sounds great. It took so long to finish it because the mastering engineer had to take care of mastering jobs for major labels first, which pay him really well. We are paying him the super indie rate / homie price, so we had to wait. We also got the artwork done! Here is the front cover!!

Big shout out to Noel, who did the drawing of us. He is a friend of ESQ and used to do the animation for The Simpsons.
DJ Lowkey is finishing up the mix for ESQ & CHIKARAMANGA's free download mix tape. It will be out probably in the first week of August.

Today, we had a video shoot for Shawn Jackson "Lil Big Man" (produced by Cook Classics). Director is Jerome D, who did Paten Locke "Ventilation" video. "Lil Big Man" is the lead 12" single (vinyl & digital) off of Shawn's 2nd album, "Brand New Old Me." The 12" will be out on vinyl on 7/13 and for digital download on 7/20.
