House Shoes "Let It Go Instrumentals" Double Vinyl (500 Limited)

November 20, 2012 will mark the TRES Records release date for the double vinyl & digital release of the instrumentals from Let It Go – the debut LP from Detroit native House Shoes. It feels wrong, though, to call Let It Go a ‘debut’ record because it doesn’t sound like a first-try. Official debut, or not, House Shoes is not new. He released the now treasure-hunted Jay Dee Unreleased EP (1996), and Phat Kat’s classic Dedication to the Suckers (1999) on his own imprint. He’s produced for the late Big Proof (D12), J Dilla, Elzhi, and Danny Brown. He’s DJ’ed for Black Milk, Guilty Simpson, Mayer Hawthorne, Slum Village, and too many more to list. Technically, however, Let It Go is his debut LP. One that hip-hop ‘know-somethings’ have been asking for (for years). One he’s probably been holding on to for a while. One he’s finally letting go.

This edition of the release from TRES Records contains the instrumental versions of the tracks heard on House Shoes’ debut record. House Shoes is the type of producer whose work you can’t fully appreciate until you’ve heard the details that go into each track. This instrumental release allows listeners to immerse themselves in the claps, snares, kicks, and soul-filled samples that House Shoes plates for Let It Go (all the nuances that might be overlooked next to the features). Shoes delivers an album that sound like an album (and not a mixtape) – no small feat in today’s music world. He blends the
songs, and interludes into a sequence that sounds like they all belong to something bigger than their time stamp and signature. Individually, the songs are strong; soaked in that necksnapping,
gritty-drummed, trouble-water-soul-sampled thing that makes hip hop magnetic. To dissect the album into its parts would miss the point, though. The triumph of Let It Go is the full hour of music, not any
fraction of the 60-some-minute run time.

1. Let It Go (The Beginning)
2. Empire / Get Down
3.GoodFellas To Bad Boys / Excursions
4.Dirt / Bad Ass
5.Time / Nowhere To Run

6.Crazy / BahBahBah
7.Last Breath / Pimp Shit
8.Keep On / 'Til Infinity
9.Sweet / Noodles

10.So Different / Moody
11.Everything (Modern Family) / Without You
12.Sunrise / Love
13.Trouble / Slaves
14.Nails / Broken

15.Castles / My Brother
16.Cry Now / Gone
17.Roller Coaster feat. Fat Albert Einstein
18.Empire Reprise feat. Sam Beaubien of Will Sessions

House Shoes "Empire" 7 inch (500 Limited)

Originally made available exclusively to subscribers of Wax Poetics Japan, this extremely limited vinyl will be available for purchase for the first time.

"Empire/The Locusts" 7 inch single features personal favorites from House Shoes' recent debut album release Let It Go as well as The Makings compilation.

"Empire", the second track from House Shoes' debut album Let It Go, is the fullest representation of House Shoes from his production to his background. The single showcases something consisting solely of his production, while weaving together a story about the musical movements to come out of Detroit and his continuing efforts to expand the empire of Detroit Hip-Hop.

"The Locusts" from The Makings showcases one of House Shoes' favorite beats that he's created. Using the original 2 track beat tape version first made back 1998-99, the single features the beat in its original, raw form – burned straight to cd from Shoes' MPC2000XL right after making the beat.

"Empire / The Locusts" 7 inch is now available at

House Shoes 'The Makings' Part 2

Labeling Shoes as a producer or just a DJ would be shortchanging what he brings to music. He’s more like a custodian of culture who leaves his mark on productions and people – myself included. You can’t work with or spend time with this guy and not appreciate his lunch-pail, Michigan-made attitude about keeping rap rooted. And today, he follows up last week’s release of Part 1 of his The Makings podcast with a second half, featuring his previous work behind the boards for the likes of Quelle, Danny Brown, eLZhi and others (“Axel Foley” FTW!). Rich Medina, Nick Speed, Rhettmatic, Rosenberg and a few others talk Shoes influence and lengthy history as it ranges from the D to Cali.
Stream The Making Pt. 2 below, download it here and be sure to grab Let It Go when it releases on June 19th. - Gotty of The Smoking Section

House Shoes "The Time EP" Red Vinyl (500 copies)

We're getting ready to release House Shoes' "The Time EP."  It will be out worldwide on May 22nd.  Big Tone, Danny Brown, and Jimetta Rose are featured on this EP.  This is the lead single from Shoes' upcoming debut album "Let It Go."  It will be a limited pressing of 500 on red vinyl.  Here's the official press release:

Artist: House Shoes
Title: The Time EP
Cat#: tr396-083
UPC#: 181057000646

House Shoes’ lead-off release The Time EP is a precursor to his forthcoming full-length debut album Let It Go. It features original production by Shoes with features by Detroit Emcees Big Tone and Danny Brown, as well as Los Angeles songbird Jimetta Rose.

“Better later than never,” some might say, about these releases from House Shoes. He has been an integral piece of the landscape of Detroit hip-hop for the better part of 20 years. He’s produced, DJed,
and dot-connected for a generation of Detroit artists who have taken the sounds of their city on world tour.

From his work alongside J Dilla and Big Proof, to Black Milk, Guilty Simpson, Phat Kat, and Danny Brown – he has helped to shepherd Detroit’s hip-hop into prominence. His solo endeavors are long overdue, and much awaited.

You can’t rush creation, though – and no matter how late fans might feel it is, House Shoes, The Time EP, and the following Let It Go LP, are arriving like they had an appointment.

“The past no longer exists, and the future is yet to happen / the present time is only as long as the moment that I’m in it; I’m feelin’ every millisecond passin’.” From the needle-drop, the filthy-neck-snapping drums under chopped synths on ‘Time’ featuring Big Tone sets the stage for a showcase of Tone’s humble bravado. He raps about the need to have ‘right now’ in order, and how he keeps his watches in sync.

‘Sweet’ featuring Danny Brown, the second offering of the EP, lays an understated and confident hi hat over layers of bass guitar riffs and strings stabs that might actually inflict bodily harm. Danny spits with his patented lack-toothed style and a considerably rougher hand than the preceding Emcee. As is usually the case with Brown, it works as designed, with witty chest-puffed punch lines like “you study what I author / your arms too short – my reach like Tarver…” and plus he’s “got butta like George Washington Carver.” Bravo.

The third plate in his Chef’s tasting menu, ‘Castles (tHE SKY IS OURS)’ featuring Jimetta Rose, sounds like it is playing through different speakers than the first two courses – the song feels like it’s coming from the clouds. Created in tribute to the late Jovan ‘J1’ Coleman (Drummer for Dam-Funk / Mazter Blazter, producer, and a friend to Shoes and Rose) – Jimetta sings for all of the people who carried us in the past; the people who we carry on for now. The song closes with an audio clip from an interview with J1 before his passing.

The 12” release also includes two exclusive instrumentals titled ‘Suspended’ and ‘No More Mista Nice Guy’ that are not available on the full-length Let It Go release later this year.

TRES Records will release The Time EP on May 22nd, available digitally and on limited-edition 12” vinyl. It primes the palate well for his full-length debut in the coming months.

Track List

Side A
1. Time feat. Big Tone - Clean
2. Time - Instrumental
3. Castles (tHE SKY IS OURS) feat. Jimetta Rose - Clean
4. Suspended

Side B

1. Sweet feat. Danny Brown - Dirty
2. Sweet feat. Danny Brown - Clean
3. Sweet - Instrumental
4. No More Mr. Nice Guy

House Shoes 'Castles' Feat. Jimetta Rose

The only song on 'Let It Go' featuring a female singer, Jimetta Rose pens a tribute song to their friend J1 over a soulful backdrop from 'Shoes. For the rest of the album fans can expect the gritty and grimey Detroit sound. J-1 -- aka Jovan Coleman, drummer in Dam-Funk's Master Blazter passed away after being involved in an accident in Sweden. Since moving to L.A. four years ago, J-1 joined Shafiq Husayn's En'AFreeKa Ensemble and Animal Kingdom, released several beat tapes and podcasts through Heavyweight Production House (HVW8), and linked up with Dam-Funk and Computer Jay to form heavy boogie-funk trio Master Blazter. His presence shaped and forever changed the L.A. musical landscape.

Originally featured as a bonus track to the Starship 27 v.2 compilation, curated by J1, Castles will also live on House Shoes’ upcoming album dropping this Summer.

Shoes' debut album 'Let It Go' dropping on Tres Records, June 19th
House Shoes will be appearing at the next BoomBox event, Saturday April 7th at Grand Starr Jazz Club in LA.

Playing an important role in the scene since the early 90’s, House Shoes is now widely acknowledged as Detroit’s ambassador for Hip-Hop.  House Shoes produced all of the tracks on the album, except for the last two, which are live reproductions of his works.  The album features OH NO, Alchemist, Roc Marciano, Moe Dirdee, Shafiq Husayn, Big Tone, Black Milk, Guilty Simpson, Nottz, MED, Co$$, Danny Brown, Chali 2na, FattFather, MarvWon, Black Spade, Quelle, Jimetta Rose, J1, SelfSays, Fat Albert Einstein, and Sam Beaubien of Will Sessions. House Shoes Bio:
Detroit’s Hip-Hop Ambassador to the World, Michael “House Shoes” Buchanan has been an integral part of the long burgeoning Motown resurgence. Just ask anyone coming out of Detroit to confirm this.

House Shoes, a resident DJ at the hip-hop staple St. Andrews Hall, Detroit MI, from 1994-2004 has had personal influence over a full generation of well respected emcees, producers, and then-future DJs.

As a DJ, ‘Shoes has toured extensively throughout the U.S., Europe, and Australia with artists Guilty Simpson, Illa J, Exile, Aloe Blacc, Percee P, Phat Kat, Slum Village and Elzhi, to name a few, as well as on his own, gaining the respect of acts far outside the scope of Detroit hip-hop. House Shoes also performed as tour DJ on Mayer Hawthorne & The County’s Spring 2010 16-city headlining U.S. tour.

As a producer, ‘Shoes has worked with the late and revered J Dilla and Big Proof, Black Milk, Danny Brown, Quelle, Roc Marciano, Chino XL, Invincible, Finale, MED, Fowl (2010 RedBull EmSee National Champion), Finale, Big Tone, Marv Won, Elzhi, Shawn Jackson, Now On(Mayer Hawthorne), and Moe Dirdee, among others.

Two self-produced 10” limited vinyl issues have also been released on Do-Over Records, backed by Flying Lotus, and All-City Records, respectively. Most recently, he produced tracks on Danny Brown's ‘XXX’ and Quelle’s ‘Shotgun and Sleek Rifle’ album late last year.

Currently he lives and works in Los Angeles, California. He recently got back from a world tour around Europe, Australia and South Korea. Constantly Dj’ing at events and parties all over LA, Shoes’ is highly revered as a world class producer and DJ.
