Johnson Family Reunion

Mainframe from Johnson & Jonson invited me to the Gonjasufi's album release party at Echoplex last night. Gonjasufi was featured on Johnson & Jonson's album as a member of Johnson family. His alias is Randy Johnson.

Gonjasufi's debut album came out last week through Warp Records. I bought his 7 inch The Gaslamp Killer produced, which came out a few weeks ago. The GLK is also a member of Johnson Family. His alias is Ben Johnson. Since I really liked the 7 inch, I was looking forward to seeing the show.

When I got to the venue, Mainframe (aka Jon Jonson) was just about to start spinning. He played a lot of unreleased stuff he had in his laptop, such as unreleased Blu stuff, Gonjasufi stuff, etc.

While Mainframe was spinning, I set up the merch booth for Johnson & Jonson records and CD. Stephen and John from Warp Records let me put J&J stuff on their merch table. Thank you!

After Mainframe's set, Gonjasufi went on. The Gaslamp Killer was the DJ for Gonjasufi.

The GLK said that show was Gonjasufi's second show ever. I guess he had performed only once before that show. The show was great though. John from Warp Records told me that vinyl of the Gonjasufi's album will be available next week. I definitely need to get that.

After Gonjasufi's set, The GLK span and then other Warp Records artist, Flying Lotus span.

The whole show was recorded by Dub Lab crew. You can listen to it here!

There are so many talented artists doing new stuff in LA.
I'm grateful to be part of this scene.

ESQ & Chikaramanga LOGO

Our in-house designer, Sausen came up with the logo for ESQ & Chikaramanga. I like it!
I finished mixing tracks for the first ESQ & Chikaramanga 12" last week. Now, I am waiting to hear from ESQ about the mix. If he likes it, I will take it to the mastering studio.

Today is the release date for U-N-I & Ro Blvd / A Love Supreme 2.0. Their album release party will take place at Blu Monkey Lounge in LA tonight. It's free to get in.
My plan for today is to go to Amoeba, buy the album, bring it to the release party, and get it autographed.

New track from Co$$

Co$$ just dropped some new music. It's an ode to the old school and it's been put up on 2dopeboyz.

“Sup world? Anyone who knows me personally or musically knows I have the utmost reverence for the “old skoo”, so I thought I’d prove it by laying one of those throw back 80s/90s inspired joints…I hit up my nigga Playa Haze because I knew he could cook up one of those old skool joint with that classic boom bap feel..I came up on a variety of MCs, from Pimp C to Daddy Kane, Planet Asia to MC Lyte, they all inspired me to do what I do today, so enjoy the joint, and respect the Old School ya’ll, without the past there would be no present….R.I.P. Pimp C!!!……” – Co$$

He responded in the comments himself, talking about his album coming out this year......GET. READY.

U-N-I & Ro Blvd "The Documentary"

U-N-I's new album, "A Love Supreme 2.0" will be out on March 9th. Tres has nothing to do with this release, but I wanted to mention it here beacause I, personally, as a fan of their music, have been waiting for this release. The album is double disc (CD & DVD). It will be available on iTunes as well.
Ro Blvd invited me to the screening for the documentary of U-N-I & Ro Blvd. It took place at MGM theater in west Los Angeles, yesterday. I'm not sure, if this documentary is on the DVD, which comes with the album. Interviews of them and various different people, tour footage, recording scene, etc. were on the documentary. It was interesting to see how this "A Love Supreme" project came together and how they reached to the point they are at now.

Fretless Fader

Our intern, Mathis found an interesting youtube footage. This is a cool invention. DJ John Beez used "Target" off of Thes One's "Lifestyle Marketing" album for this preview!

DJ John Beez (North California) is constantly pushing the limits of the classic 2 turntables and a mixer-setup. His newest invention is called the “fretless fader”. Basically, it allows the DJ to pitch-shift his scratches.

Through the use of built-in sliding MIDI control, the Fretless Fader allows DJ’s to scratch, "cut, and change notes through 2 octaves without taking your hands away from the vinyl and fader."

Fretless Fader creator JohnBeez gives an update and explanation of his diabolical hardware creation. In addition to showing off the major/minor switch, he shows how the Fretless Fader has the unique ability to move both up and down an octave.
