Michael Lau Art Show @ Barracuda

I went to Michael Lau's art show at a clothing store in LA, Barracuda last night. Michael Lau is a figure creator from Hong Kong. It was a guest only art show, but I went in with Omae from Shibuya crew. Since he writes for a few Japanese fashion magazines, he is usually on VIP list for this kind of thing.
Hundreds of figures Michael Lau made were exhibited at the store. It was very interesting. He made a few limited figure to sell at the art show. There was a long line of people who were going to buy those figures.
I'm glad I am not a figure collector. Collecting Records is enough for me. I don't have enough money and time to collect both.

Test Pressing

It's been a bit busy here at TRES, but getting these test presses in was like a breath of fresh air. Two debut solo projects:

1. Paten Locke's "Super Ramen Rocketship" double vinyl

2. My first producer project which is several 7-inch collab. releases.

can't wait to go home and listen to them.....

All that's left after that is a confirmation, and then they'll hit the shelves (that's the short version). Get Ready!!

Paten Locke "Super Ramen Rocketship" Artwork

This is the front cover design for Paten's album. We turn in the entire artwork file for the album (CD & LP) to the printer last week. We barely made the deadline. It was very close to the worst situation, which we had to push back the release date to January.
Gordon who did the design for Paten's "Break Thru" 12 inch did the design for the album as well. It came out really nice.
CD, LP, and digital of the album is scheduled to be out on October 20th, but LP might get pushed back a week or two. I will keep you posted.

Kap Soul Grand Opening!!

My friend, Kap is going to open a clothing shop in Down Town LA. The name of the shop is Kap Soul. Tomorrow, September 10th is the grand opening day. He used to rent a space inside of a shop on Melrose called, Selecta. Since Selecta is going to close, he decided to open his own shop. There will be a great selection of sun glasses, clothing, mix CDs, records, etc. All the Sun glasses and glasses used in New Jack Hustle / New Shades video were from his shop.
I made a mix CD to sell at Kap's shop. Since his shop is on 6th and Spring, I named the mix CD, "6th & Spring". It is mostly recent Hip Hop. This is my first mix CD. I have made mix tapes, but not CD.

Here is the address for Kap Soul

548 S Spring st #110
Los Angeles, CA 90013

TRES Records slipmats are now here!!!

These are the first slipmats to ever come out of TRES Records, and they are going fast. It's simple, black and white, with the TRES Billboard logo combined with a 60's psychedelic twist. They look great hung up on the wall but even better when spinning on the decks. If you're wondering how they feel, or what they're made out of, they're made from the same material as the Fat Beats, and Technics slipmats (a favorite for many DJ's). Like I said, they're leaving the shelves quick. Get 'em at our very own ebay site
, Underground Hip, or your own local record store.

Angel City Jazz Festival

I DJed with Kiwamu and Yotah at Angel City Jazz Festival yesterday. It took place at John Anson Ford Amphitheater in Hollywood. We span at the outside patio. Our friend, Gustavo was doing live painting with his friends there as well. We were asked to play only Jazz. I tried to keep it as funky as possible. I played a lot of records I don't usually play, like Weather Report, Dizzy Gillespie, etc. It was fun.
There was a tent for Angel City Brewing right next to DJ booth. They are a local brewer from Torrance. They named some of their beer after famous people and musicians. It was cool that they let us try all the kinds of beer they had. My favorite was "Che", which was lager beer.
I didn't get a chance to see the concert much, but my friends who saw it told me it was amazing.
Hopefully, we get booked next year as well.

Whatupdoe?!?! It's Tone, looking back at the summer.

Summer Recap

Peace all,

Reflecting on the year thus far, I just wanted to take time out to acknowledge some of the folks who extended themselves to make 2009 a special year in my musical timeline. With the release of my latest album "The Art Of Ink" earlier this spring, 2009 marked a new beginning for me...which is setting the tone for new opportunities and projects. Big ups to everybody at Tres Records for sharing the vision and enthusiasm I had for this album. Chikara, thanks for allowing me the creative space, and all the hard work...let's keep it going! Shout outs to Karin, Peter and everybody at Subotage for making the 2009 Detroit Moves Tour the experience that it was. In all the times that I've shared the stage with Guilty and Phat Kat, it's a totally different spin on it being thousands of miles from home. Looking forward to doing it again, SOON! Thanks to Jocelyne Ninneman and Fusicology/Mir Media for acknowledging the music, and supporting the record...I'm learning just how important it is that people are made AWARE. Who knew?!?! Shout outs to Brandon, Nick, and the good people at Greedy Genius for lacing me this summer...and for being open to support the movement. Definitely the freshest kicks out, too.

We've recently released the Chocolate 7" vinyl, and are currently shooting the video for it (Directed by Dwele) which we hope to be leaking soon. Some other pretty cool video stuff in the album under way as well. Hoping to start 2010 where the summer of 2009 left off. Stay tuned!
